Youth Mental Health First Aid free training available

The Mississippi Public Health Institute (MSPHI) is now offering Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA), a training designed to equip adults who work with or support adolescents with the knowledge and skills to recognize signs of mental health and substance use challenges, respond appropriately, and connect young people with appropriate support and resources.

The training covers topics such as anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, self-harm, suicide, and other mental health concerns that can affect young people. It is not intended to turn participants into mental health professionals but rather to give them the tools to recognize when a young person may be struggling and know how to respond.

This could be a particularly useful resource for schools and school district law enforcement who regularly interact with adolescents. Please contact LaTasha Golden at the information below to schedule individual or group trainings.
