STEPS professional learning opportunities offered

K-12 educators can register now until Oct. 18, 2026 for STEPS – From Resources to Classroom (free asynchronous online session) that offers CEUs: 1.0  and SEMIs: 5.

Join the Center for Mathematics & Science Education to explore ways to help students step back in time and explore the rich history of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through the Library of Congress collection of primary sources. In this asynchronous online workshop, participants will learn how to locate, evaluate, and effectively integrate historical primary sources into science, mathematics, and other STEM lesson planning.

Participants will complete 10 hours of asynchronous coursework through the Canvas learning platform. The workshop includes six engaging online modules designed to expand educators’ knowledge of teacher resources available through the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) program.

Throughout the course, participants will learn strategies for analyzing primary sources and incorporating that analysis into STEM instruction. Educators will also engage in self-guided, hands-on activities that align with mathematics and science standards while grounding student learning in a meaningful historical context.
