Grade 5 Algebra Readiness Indicator score will determine need for IMP in Grade 6

The Mississippi State Board of Education approved a Grade 5 Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP) Mathematics Algebra Readiness Indicator (ARI) score of 560 to support early identification of students who may need additional mathematics support before entering Algebra I.

The indicator is based on Grade 5 MAAP Mathematics performance and was developed through a rigorous standard-setting process involving Mississippi educators and mathematics experts. Beginning in the 2026–2027 school year, a student’s Grade 5 MAAP Mathematics score will serve as a key data point when the student enters Grade 6.

Any student who scores below the State Board-approved ARI score of 560 on the Grade 5 MAAP Mathematics assessment will have an Individual Mathematics Plan (IMP) developed for Grade 6. This process is designed to ensure students receive focused mathematics support early as they transition into middle school and progress toward Algebra I readiness.
