It is time for the 38th annual statewide MS Hearing-Vision Project Child Count of all children (birth – 21 years old) having combined (simultaneous, concurrent) hearing and visual impairment to any degree.
Please consider students in general education classes as well as those with the most complex needs regardless of IFSP or IEP coding.
If a student has an established or suspected condition in each of the following two categories, they should be counted.
Visual Impairment may include: Low Vision (20/70 to 20/200); Legally Blind (20/200 or less); Field Restriction of Less Than 40 degrees; Light Perception Only; Totally Blind; Cerebral/Cortical Visual Impairment; Diagnosed Progressive Loss; Functioning as if Visually Impaired; OR Further Testing Needed (for up to one year, while visual abilities are being determined).
Correction may include corrective glasses or contacts.
Hearing Loss may include: Mild (26 – 40 dB); Moderate (41 – 55 dB); Moderately Severe (56 – 70 dB); Severe (71 – 90 dB); Profound (91+ dB); Auditory Neuropathy; Central Auditory Processing Disorder; Functioning as if Hearing Impaired; OR Further Testing Needed (for up to one year, while hearing abilities are being determined).
Correction may include hearing aids; Cochlear implant; FM System

This federally mandated Child Count is covered under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) §99.31 as a viable case where prior parental consent is not required for you to report this information.
