Mississippi Hearing-Vision Project (MH-VP)

Mississippi Hearing-Vision Project (MH-VP) staff are available to support you, your staff and families of children and youth (birth – 21 years) who have BOTH a hearing impairment AND a visual impairment. We are grant funded through the U. S. Office of Special Education and located at The University of Southern Mississippi.

  • What you get: FREE technical assistance regarding instructional strategies, resources, and professional development for how to best provide ACCESS to the curriculum when both primary senses are impaired.
  • Who is the service for? All teachers, related service providers, administrators and families provide general and special education, early intervention instruction, and families.

Mississippi Hearing-Vision Project (MH-VP) staff are also offering free online training for those working with students with complex needs. Here are a few of the possibilities to join:

  1. Join the Peer Learning Community (PLC) for delivering ONLINE &/or In-Person INTERVENTION for Learners with Primary Sensory Impairments (Visual Impairments (VI) OR Hearing Impairments (HI) OR Both Hearing & Vision Impairments (DEAF-BLINDNESS (DB)). This learning opportunity is for any Educator, Paraprofessional, Related Service Provider, or Administrator. The Community will determine the topics addressed each month in the hour long sessions held on the 2nd Tuesday each month. The first meeting will occur September 14, Tuesday at 4 – 5 PM. 2.­­­Mississippi Hearing-Vision Project offers FREE online Open Hands Open Access (OHOA) Modules. Three different SETS of Modules are being offered this Fall, one for those who have not taken any of these Modules before and 2 others for those who have already taken Modules 1, 2 and 4.

Open Hands Open Access (OHOA) Modules provide evidence-based instructional strategies, information and resources for students with severe complexities, including vision and hearing impairments. Both Cohorts are open to families, educators, paraprofessionals, early childhood interventionists, administrators, and related service providers serving any age.

Each SET of Modules includes 3 modules and each module takes about 7 hours to complete. The Cohort participants will work through their set of three modules between September 8 – October 13 at their own pace. Educator continuing education credits are only available for the completed set of modules through RESA, and yield .7 ceus or 7 contact hours per module totaling at least 2.1 CEU for $15.
