The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) is seeking practicing school counselors to serve on the Mississippi Counseling Advisory Committee. This committee will support MDE’s efforts to strengthen and advance school counseling programs across the state through practitioner input, collaboration, and statewide representation.
The primary outcome of this work is to improve school counseling practices across Mississippi by ensuring guidance, resources, and professional learning reflect the realities and needs of counselors and students.
- Members will serve a two-year term
- At the conclusion of the two-year term, counselors may re-apply for another term
- The committee will provide feedback and recommendations to MDE related to school counseling priorities, initiatives, and statewide supports
MDE encourages applications from school counselors who:
- Are currently employed and licensed as a school counselor or school counseling supervisor in a Mississippi public school (required)
- Represent diverse regions, school levels, and district contexts
- Are committed to comprehensive, student-centered school counseling programs
- Are interested in contributing to statewide improvement efforts
- Participate in scheduled meetings (virtual and/or in-person)
- Engage in collaborative discussion and provide practitioner perspectives
- Support the shared goal of improving school counseling across Mississippi
