JACKSON, Miss. — The McClean Fletcher Center, Mississippi’s only grief center dedicated exclusively to children and teens, offers free grief‑support services and training to public and private school educators and counselors statewide. As schools continue to face increasing mental‑health needs, the center wants to ensure educators have the tools and support necessary to help students cope with the death of a loved one.
Located in Jackson, the McClean Fletcher Center provides developmentally appropriate grief support for children ages 4–18 and their caregivers. The center offers:
- Training for counselors, faculty and staff: Customized sessions prepare educators to support grieving students, respond to schoolwide loss, and facilitate difficult conversations.
- School‑based grief support and crisis consultation: Center staff can assist schools following the death of a student, educator, or community member, providing guidance, group support, and resources.
- Peer support groups for children and teens: Students may attend free grief support groups at the center, giving them a safe, structured environment to process the emotions associated with the death of a loved one.
- Family and caregiver resources: The center offers tools and sessions to help caregivers reinforce healthy coping strategies at home.
