For 2026, the Mississippi Department of Mental Health (DMH) has returned to its 52 Weeks of Progress series to show the changes – both big and small – that Mississippi’s system has experienced over the past several years. This is a way to keep the public informed of services and supports available across the state. These services and the changes taking place in the mental health system wouldn’t be possible without the support of dedicated staff at DMH, Community Mental Health Centers, other community providers, the Mississippi Legislature, and advocates throughout the state.
This week, DMH is highlighting the 988 Guide for Schools in partnership with the Mississippi Department of Education. September was Suicide Prevention Month, but this topic is important all year and especially with regards to young people. DMH wants to help teachers and educational staff be prepared to talk about such a difficult topic. School personnel are in a prime position to help students who may be in crisis or need support, and this guide helps prepare educators for the signs they need to look out for and the resources they need to know about.
