MS Code 37-177-3 of the Literacy-Based Promotion Act REQUIRES school districts to provide written notification to parents/guardians of students in kindergarten, first, second and third grade that exhibit a substantial deficiency in reading, each quarter, until the deficiency is remediated.
To assist districts with notifying parents/guardians after universal screener administration, the Mississippi Department Education (MDE) has updated the Parent Notification Letters based on the screener used by the district (i.e., Renaissance, NWEA (MAP) and I-Ready).
The MDE is making every effort to ensure parents/guardians are well informed of their child’s reading ability and the supports offered by the district and school.
To access the updated Parent Notification Letters, please visit the following link Literacy Communication Toolkit and look for Required K-3 Parental Notification Letters About Supplemental Support or go to the MDE Literacy webpage.
