Closures vs. Virtual Learning

The MDE has received numerous calls regarding whether districts/schools must notify the MDE of district/school closures.  If a district/school transitions to virtual learning or a temporary hybrid schedule due to unforeseen circumstances such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the district/school is not required to notify the MDE if 330 minutes of instruction is being provided each day.  If the district/school closes and no instruction is being provided, the district/school shall notify the Office of Safe and Orderly School at of the closure(s).  District MSIS coordinators shall ensure that the closures are accurately reported in MSIS.  For MSIS related questions, please contact the Office of Technology and Strategic Services.
