The MDE has received numerous calls regarding whether districts/schools must notify the MDE of district/school closures. If a district/school transitions to virtual learning or a temporary hybrid schedule due to unforeseen circumstances such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the district/school is not required to notify the MDE if 330 minutes of instruction is being provided each day. If the district/school closes and no instruction is being provided, the district/school shall notify the Office of Safe and Orderly School at mdeschoolclosures@mdek12.org of the closure(s). District MSIS coordinators shall ensure that the closures are accurately reported in MSIS. For MSIS related questions, please contact the Office of Technology and Strategic Services.
