US Senate Youth Program (USSYP)

Greetings Principals and Counselors,

The time has come again for nominating your most outstanding junior or senior high school student(s) for the opportunity to represent the state of Mississippi as a member of the 2020 – 2021 United States Senate Youth Program.

The United States Senate unanimously passed a resolution in 1962 creating the UNITED STATES SENATE YOUTH PROGRAM (USSYP). This annual national initiative seeks to provide an opportunity for junior and senior high school students, with demonstrated leadership abilities, to enhance their understanding of America’s political processes and encourage their interest to pursue careers in public service. Two students from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity will be selected to participate in a week-long intensive educational program online from March 14 – 18, 2021. The selected students will attend the online program, and each will receive a $10,000 undergraduate college scholarship.

You are encouraged to nominate high school juniors and seniors serving in an elected or appointed position during the 2020 – 2021 academic year with a strong interest in government and history. If students are unable to hold leadership positions this year due to the pandemic, students can submit the position they held during the 2019 – 2020 academic year.
