The Center for Mathematics and Science Education (CMSE) at The University of Mississippi is hosting online courses that will provide mathematics teachers the opportunity to earn CEUs while participating in timely, relevant learning from mathematics teacher leaders from across the country. Each course is similar in format however, the content is unique and courses do not have to be taken in order. The courses are organized into four sessions:
Session 1: General Session
The content for Session 1 focuses on asking purposeful questions that focus on mathematical reasoning and assessments that support mathematical proficiency.
Session 2: Grade Band Session
Grade band topics allow you to learn about new content, strategies, and resources. Select the topics to meet your individual interests and needs.
Elementary School Topics:
- Being authors and illustrators of mathematical thinking
- Technology in the elementary math classroom
- Using evidence of student thinking
- Place value understanding
Middle School Topics:
- Authentic mathematical discourse
- Most misunderstood middle school standards
- The story of problem solving
- Mathematics coding
High School Topics:
- Utilizing student thinking in math discourse
- Teaching algebra
- Implementing self-assessments
Session 3: Special Topics Session
Select from a variety of special topics sessions including content knowledge for elementary teachers of math, supporting teachers to present at conferences, and engaging Indigenous learners.
Session 4: Discussion Session
Join other participants to discuss your learning and make plans for implementation. CEUs: Up to 1.5 CEUs (Per Course) Participants who complete all four sessions will earn 0.9 CEUs with bonus content that can be completed for up to 0.6 additional CEUs.
