The Thrive Conference will be held Oct. 1–3, at the Jackson Convention Complex in Jackson, Mississippi. Registration will close at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25.
The former Special Populations Conference has been rebranded as the Thrive Conference. This new name reflects the Mississippi Department of Education Office of Federal Programs’ shared commitment to ensuring that all students, including those who need additional support, have the opportunity to succeed in school and beyond.
The event will provide educators, leaders, and partners with practical strategies, resources, and tools to strengthen programs and services that support students across Mississippi. Sessions will highlight effective practices, collaboration, and innovative approaches designed to help every child reach their full potential.
This year’s conference will include required sessions for EL Coordinators, Homeless Coordinators, and Foster Care Coordinators. In addition, MDE strongly encourages the participation of family and community engagement liaisons, juvenile detention center staff, and other stakeholders who play a vital role in providing students with instructional and support services.
MDE will also offer the following focused pre-session opportunities on Oct. 1, at the Jackson Convention Complex:
- EDGAR 101 (All-Day)– Provides new federal programs directors with a focused introduction to the Education Department General Administrative Regulations (EDGAR). Participants will gain a foundational understanding of federal grants administration, key compliance requirements, and practical guidance to support effective program implementation.
- Poverty Simulation (AM and PM)– An interactive training that immerses participants in the daily realities faced by families living in poverty. This session highlights the challenges, decisions, and barriers many students and families experience, helping educators and leaders better understand and respond to their needs.
- EL Combine (AM and PM)– Brings together strategies, resources, and practical tools to strengthen services for English Learners. Participants will explore effective instructional approaches, compliance requirements, and collaborative practices that support the academic success of EL students.
We invite you to join us for this important event and be part of a collective effort to ensure success for all students. Registration links are provided below.
