Teacher Buy-in on Strategies to Meet the Individual Needs of a Student with an IEP in the Classroom

The Mississippi Department of Education, through the Office of Special Education, is pleased to offer the Whose Responsibility is it Anyway? Teacher Buy-in on Strategies to Meet the Individual Needs of a Student with an IEP in the Classroom chat for the month of November. This Special Education behavior chat session is scheduled for November 9th, 2021, from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. The session will focus on teacher understanding of how to collaborate with special educators in the general education classroom and implement the individualized strategies they provide to promote behavior management. The session will also discuss how to create a positive student culture while ensuring that students with an IEP in the classroom receive quality education along with their peers.

Participants are encouraged to be prepared to chat amongst their peers in education, chat with the host as well as the guest speaker, and share collaborative practices, resources, and classroom strategies. Collaborating and sharing resources and strategies are essential to building a strong and sustainable classroom setting for ALL students.

The session will be facilitated by Dr. Sarieta Pollard, Special Education-Behavior Professional Development Coordinator. Featured guest will be Ms. Shannon Howze, an educator with 20 years in the field of Special Education. Additional guests will be teachers across the state, new and novice, that will share their best and brightest ideas.  Let’s get ready to Set the Tone!
