Teacher leadership and communication are critical—the more teachers encourage and assist parents and caregivers in supporting their child’s literacy development, the more likely they are to become involved in their child’s education.
To strengthen communication efforts between educators and families, the Regional Educational Laboratory Southeast (REL-Southeast) created a suite of grade-specific guides to encourage and facilitate at-home literacy support for children. Each guide is designed to assist teachers in reinforcing literacy activities with families.
The literacy activities included in the guides are:
- aligned to classroom instruction;
- informed by student needs;
- grounded in evidence-based practices; and
- facilitated by ongoing parent-teacher communication.
