Superintendents: Driver Education instructor workshop offered Feb. 9-13

Dear Superintendents,

A Driver Education Instructor Certification workshop module offered by the Mississippi Department of Public Safety is available Feb. 9-13, in Canton, Mississippi.

Senate Bill 2695 of the 2024 Mississippi Legislative Session, later codified into law as Miss. Code Ann. § 37-25-3, requires all secondary public schools to offer Driver Education with the start of the 2026-2027 school year. On Sept. 25, 2025, the Mississippi State Board of Education approved a new pathway for the Driver Education 114 endorsement in efforts to increase certified Driver Education Instructors in public schools.

The Driver Education Instructor Certification workshop module is one area of coursework involved in the pathway. To apply, go to Driver Education Instructor Certification workshop module. Please send any questions about the course to DEInstructorCourse@dps.ms.gov.

Additionally, a comprehensive overview of the available pathways, eligibility options, coursework/training expectations, and other pertinent details for obtaining the Driver’s Education endorsement is available on the Mississippi Department of Education’s Office of Educator Licensure webpage: Driver’s Education Licensure Information – Educator Licensure.

For questions or additional guidance regarding the licensure process, please contact the Division of Educator Licensure at 601-359-3483 or email teachersupport@mdek12.org.
