Social studies, math educators take note of Living History event Oct. 13

This Living History event is an all-call for social studies and math educators. The Mississippi Department of Education’s Department of Social Studies’ “Living History: X + Education = Freedom” is scheduled for Oct. 13, at 5 – 7 p.m. at Jackson State University’s COFO Civil Rights Education Center.

Dr. David J. Dennis, Sr. will share his firsthand experiences, insights, and reflections on the Civil Rights Movement in Mississippi as an original Freedom Rider, field secretary for the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), co-director of the Council of Federated Organizations, co-director of Freedom Summer 1964, and co-organizer of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party. Furthermore, as founder, executive director, and consultant he will discuss the Southern Initiative Algebra Project, Inc.
