Social Emotional Training for Pre-K through Second Grade Teachers with FREE CEUs

The Graduate Center for the Study of Early Learning at the University of Mississippi is offering two new professional development sessions, Interactions at the Heart of Healing and Building Resiliency: Returning to School in Uncertain Times.

Interactions at the Heart of Healing training is a six-hour, online, self-paced series on trauma-informed professional development that focuses on the importance of interactions.  It includes hands-on tools and covers four learning goals: understanding, classroom practice, family engagement and self-care.  There is no cost for CEUs when Interactions at the Heart of Healing is completed by licensed teachers upon the submission of the Heart of Healing certificate to Cathy Hollingshed at chollingshed@olemiss.edu.

Registration information is now available for participants at this link: https://nmec.msresaservices.com/all-workshops/categories-EC/events-heart-of-healing-2021.

The Graduate Center is also offering coaching to provide technical assistance classroom support to kindergarten teachers on strategies they learned after completing the online course from Interactions at the Heart of Healing professional development sessions. Fifty kindergarten teachers will be offered two hours of individual coaching sessions over several months. Teachers will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis per registration.  Participants will receive two professional development hours upon completion of the technical assistance.

Building Resiliency: Returning to School in Uncertain Times (ages Pre-K – Second Grade), developed by Dr. Becky Bailey at Conscious Discipline is a 30-hour course and is self-paced.  The Building Resiliency course is based on brain research and supports teachers as they build safe and engaging classrooms per age of the child. Learn research-based, trauma-informed strategies to implement during this unique school year, setting the stage for resilience and achievement. Discover age-specific strategies that are responsive to the unique impacts of COVID-19 on children, families and educators. This session would also be valuable for teachers of children with special education needs. Upon successful completion, licensed teachers will be able to obtain three CEUs at no cost.
