The New York Life Award offers $1,000 scholarships to students in any state whose works explore personal grief and loss. Because you are in Mississippi, your students are also eligible for a special state-level scholarship of $500. All students in grades 7–12 (ages 13 and up) are eligible to participate. Regional deadlines vary and are as early as Dec. 15, 2021 for students in Mississippi. Teens can visit artandwriting.org/nylife to find out their regional deadlines and how to apply.
We’d be grateful if you can share this scholarship with students, educators or mental health professionals. Our media kit has images and text to make sharing the opportunity through your newsletter, website, or social media accounts easy.

We also invite you to use our classroom resources on grief and loss to support teens processing their experiences through art and writing.
