The MDE, through the Academic Education Office, is excited to share with schools a free tutoring platform for middle and high school students in Mississippi that need math and SAT/ACT supports. Schoolhouse.world is a new non-profit started by Sal Khan, the founder of Khan Academy.
All tutoring sessions are conducted through Zoom. To maximize security, all sessions and student interactions are recorded and monitored. Students may sign-up by themselves for free and then browse upcoming small group sessions or request a session around a specific topic they need help with. This tutoring platform is global, so sessions run around the clock.
Some of the ways Mississippi school districts and educators might consider using this platform include, but are not limited to:
- Sharing the website (schoolhouse.world) with students. Feel free to use these flyers for those who need tutoring and those who may want to become tutors themselves.
- Asking students to spend 45 minutes each week on Schoolhouse.world to fill-in where learning gaps might occur or to prepare for upcoming exams.
- Identifying students who might be in need of interventions or extra support, and reaching out to them and their parents and sharing this free resource.
The MDE would like to encourage you to share this information with parents and students in your school. To learn more about this platform and all available services, please visit https://schoolhouse.world.
