Registration ends Jan. 30 for AIM Science of Reading spring PD courses for teachers, educational leaders

The Mississippi Department of Education is announcing the Spring 2023 cohorts for the AIM Institute for Learning and Research’s Pathways Professional Development in-person and hybrid courses, which will assist teachers and educational leaders in furthering their ability to apply the Science of Reading, while supporting Mississippi’s mission to prepare students to compete in a global community.

AIM Pathways will offer two hybrid courses that are customized for Mississippi teachers and leaders that include asynchronous learning as well as two in-person training sessions with experienced AIM facilitators.

Registration deadline for all courses is Jan. 30.

Hybrid courses for teachers and educational leaders will run from Jan. 30 – June 8.

In-person training for educational leaders is set for Feb. 28, and June 8 in Jackson.

In-person training for teachers is set for:

  • March 2 and June 8 in Jackson
  • March 1 and June 7 in Biloxi

Pathways to Proficient Reading – Teacher’s Next Step Literacy Training for Classroom Application

Take the next step in your literacy training with AIM Pathways to Proficient Reading to transfer your knowledge into classroom practice. This 30-hour tailored hybrid course, through North MS Education Consortium (NMEC), provides teachers with downloadable classroom resources, tools, and supports to apply and implement explicit literacy instruction into classroom practice.

This course includes asynchronous online training and two in-person sessions to support strong, proficient readers through the Science of Reading.

Teacher participants will:

  • Acquire knowledge through hundreds of learning tools including articles, teacher classroom videos, animations, and videos of experts in the field in 14 asynchronous learning sections.
  • Practice with specially-designed interactive activities and downloadable resources to help them translate their new knowledge into instructional practice.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the content by applying their new knowledge to real life classroom scenarios via multi-step student case studies.
  • Benefit from in-person and virtual coaching sessions with AIM facilitators to support knowledge acquisition and classroom implementation.
  • Receive 3.0 CEUs upon course completion.
  • Be eligiblefor 3 graduate credits through Arcadia University for successful completion of the course.
  • Have access to the online course for 12 months to review and refer to for continued implementation support.

Pathways to Literacy Leadership – Educational Leaders Next Steps for the Development and Implementation of a Literacy Plan

Take the next step in your literacy training with AIM Pathways to Literacy Leadership and create and implement a literacy plan in your school. This 30-hour tailored hybrid course, through North MS Education Consortium (NMEC), is designed specifically for education leaders and is grounded in implementation science. Participants will learn how to advance literacy evidence-based instruction into all classrooms with asynchronous online coursework that is supported by two Virtual Community of Practice Sessions and two in-person sessions where you will build and customize a literacy plan for your school. Become a literacy leader and support your teachers as they implement their literacy practice to support strong, proficient readers through the Science of Reading.

 Educational Leader Participants will:

  • Acquire knowledge through hundreds of learning tools including articles, teacher classroom videos, animations, and videos of experts in the field.
  • Practice with specially-designed interactive activities and downloadable resources to help translate new knowledge into instructional practice.
  • Create a literacy plan for their school and learn how to support teachers in implementing new instruction in the classroom.
  • Benefit from in-person and virtual coaching sessions with AIM facilitators to support knowledge acquisition and classroom implementation.
  • Receive 3.0 CEUs, 20 SEMIs, or 2 OSLs upon course completion.
  • Be eligiblefor 3 graduate credits through Arcadia University for successful completion of the course.
  • Have access to the online course for 12 months to review and refer to for continued implementation support.
