Regional Trainings Available for SCD Teachers

The Mississippi Department of Education is partnering with the Aberdeen School District to offer two free regional trainings on December 10-11 for teachers of students with significant cognitive disabilities. See below for more details.

Session: Classroom Design and Functional Skill Building in the SCD Classroom
Date: December 10
Time: 8:30-3:30
Description: This training is designed to provide participants with a toolbox of strategies to effectively instruct students with significant cognitive disabilities. Topics will include classroom design and organization, scheduling, and lesson planning. Participants will have the opportunity to collaborate and develop classroom plans specific to their students, including developmentally-appropriate centers.

 Session: Navigating the MS-Alternate Academic Achievement Standards
Date: December 11
Time: 8:30-3:30
Description: This training is designed to address the components of the MS-AAAS Alternative Standards as they relate to learning. Teachers will be able to use the MS-AAAS as a guide to access curriculum that meets academic, developmental and functional needs. The training will also focus on collecting, organizing and using data to set goals for evaluating progress throughout the year.
