The MDE, through the Office of Intervention Services, is offering a teacher symposium to support teachers who work with English Learners (EL). Sessions will be geared towards general education teachers, special education teachers, EL teachers, counselors, interventionists, building level administrators, and special education directors, as they strive to meet the needs of general and special education EL students. A general session will focus on culturally and linguistically responsive practices, and breakout sessions will focus on classroom practices to support EL students. Additional sessions such as meeting the emotional needs of ELs, assessment, and funding for English Learner programs are among the planned sessions.
Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. Training begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. Dates and sites are listed below.

There are no limitations on the number of participants per district and districts are not assigned to a Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA). This event is funded with state and/or federal funds and is being provided for employees of school districts, employees of the Mississippi Department of Education and Department contractors. Mississippi Constitution Article 4, Section 66 prohibits governing authorities from making donations. According to the Mississippi Attorney General, once federal funds are turned over to the state, the rules for the expenditure of state funds apply. Based on Mississippi law, this event is not being provided for third party vendors or external providers.
