PD Opportunity for K-2 Teachers – Tools for Literacy: Building A Strong Foundation

Greetings Superintendents, Curriculum Coordinators, Special Education Directors, Federal Programs Directors, and Principals:

The MDE, through the Office of Elementary Education and Reading, is offering Tools for Literacy: Building a Strong Foundation (K-2), a professional development opportunity for kindergarten through second grade teachers, special education teachers, school and district literacy coaches, interventionists, and school administrators. During this interactive training, participants will learn and practice new strategies for supporting the development of a strong literacy foundation in the primary grades, focusing on vocabulary development and phonological awareness strategies, as well as a deeper understanding of RL and RI standards for more effective planning of lessons.

Note: Participants will be able to access training materials on the MDE Literacy webpage (https://www.mdek12.org/Literacy) one week prior to the training. Participants should bring a computer with these materials or print a copy of the materials in advance.

There are no limitations on the number of participants per district and districts are not assigned to a Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA). Registration will be on a first-come-first-served basis at http://nmec.msresaservices.com/s/event/search?search=tools+for+literacy&description=true.

Please contact the RESA if there are questions about registration, or contact LeighAnne Cheeseman (lcheeseman@mdek12.org) in the Office of Elementary Education and Reading if there are questions for the MDE.
