The Mississippi Department of Education Division of Literacy is offering a January 2024 Pathways to Proficient Reading Cohort. AIM Pathways professional development will assist Speech Pathologists, K-8 reading interventionists, and K-8 special education teachers statewide in furthering their ability to apply the Science of Reading, while supporting Mississippi’s mission to prepare students to compete in a global community. AIM Pathways will offer this course customized for Mississippi teachers and leaders that include asynchronous learning as well as two in-person training sessions with experienced AIM facilitators.
Science of Reading Course:
- Pathways to Proficient Reading will provide educators access to resources for application-based classroom practices to support strong, proficient readers through the Science of Reading. (Speech Pathologists, K-8 reading interventionists, and K-8 special education teachers)

Participants will:
- Acquire knowledge through hundreds of learning tools including articles, teacher classroom videos, animations, and videos of experts in the field in 14 asynchronous learning sections
- Practice with specially designed interactive activities and downloadable resources to help them translate their new knowledge into instructional practice
- Demonstrate understanding of the content by applying their new knowledge to real life classroom scenarios via multi-step student case studies
- Benefit from in-person and virtual coaching sessions with AIM facilitators to support knowledge acquisition and classroom implementation
- Receive 5.2 CEUs, 40 SEMIs, or 4 OSLs upon course completion
- Be eligible for 3 graduate credits through Arcadia University for successful completion of the course
- Have access to the online course for 12 months to review and refer to for continued implementation support
- Attendance and participation at two, daylong in-person training sessions (February 2024 and May 2024)
