The Mississippi Community College Board (MCCB) has a number of free live and on-demand training opportunities currently available to K-12 and higher education faculty, staff, and administrators through the Mississippi Virtual Community College (MSVCC) Academy.
Upcoming webinar topics include the Canvas App, scheduled for November 12 at 12:30 p.m. On-demand webinars include content on topics such as Canvas Blueprints and Engaging Students Using Built-in Canvas Tools. Several four-week courses may be of particular interest, as they are focused specifically on the Canvas learning management system.
- Growing with Canvas is designed to help teachers learn how to use Canvas effectively in brick and mortar classrooms AND online learning environments. The course uses a combination of the Canvas Video Guides and Canvas Guides to teach the content. The course progresses through 4 modules that cover the following topics: navigating Canvas, Canvas communication tools, customizing your course, designing your course, creating content and assessments, using SpeedGrader, and copying your course. Participants in the course will try out a number of the concepts through the practice activities. Completion time is about 4 weeks. The next course runs from November 2 to November 27, 2020, and the course is offered monthly.
Target Audience: New Online or Hybrid Instructors, Face-to-Face Instructors wanting to utilize Canvas in their class, anyone wanting to learn more about Canvas
Individuals who complete the course will receive a certificate of completion from the Mississippi Virtual Community College via the MSVCC Academy Catalog. - Digging Deeper with Designing and Teaching is designed to teach instructors how to create sound objectives and outcomes, and how to align them to assessments using Canvas Rubrics and Outcomes. This course will teach best practices, learning styles, engagement strategies, and pedagogy for facilitating online instruction. You will also learn about some external and research-based tools that you can use for teaching online. The course is divided into 4 modules and completion time is estimated 4 weeks. The next course runs from November 2 to November 27, 2020, and the course is offered monthly.Target Audience: Online, Face-to-Face, or Hybrid Instructors who are proficient with Canvas.Individuals who complete the course will receive a certificate of completion from the Mississippi Virtual Community College via the MSVCC Academy Catalog.
