Dear Educational Stakeholder,
On June 13, 2019, the Mississippi State Board of Education met in its regularly scheduled meeting and approved the recommendation received from the Commission on Teacher and Administrator Education, Certification and Licensure and Development to adopt and establish a qualifying passing score of 130 for the newly revised version of the Praxis Core Mathematics Assessment (Test Code 5733). Please note that the required qualifying passing score of 130 does not represent an adjusted score for the current version of the Praxis Core Mathematics Assessment (Test Code 5732). Rather, the score of 130 represents the qualifying passing score associated with the newly adopted version of the Praxis Core Mathematics Assessment (Test Code 5733).
The new version of the Praxis Core Mathematics (Test Code 5733) will replace the current version of the Praxis Core Mathematics (Test Code 5732) with an effective date of September 1, 2019. The current version of the Praxis Core Mathematics (Test Code 5732) will be discontinued effective August 31, 2019. Adhering to the Mississippi State Board of Education’s Discontinued Test Policy (p.79 of the current version of the Guidelines for Mississippi Educator Licensure K-12), Mississippi’s qualifying passing score for the Praxis Core Mathematics Test Code 5732 will be accepted through August 31, 2021 if the qualifying passing score was achieved on or prior to August 31, 2019.
While the content of the Praxis Core Reading (Test Code 5712) and Praxis Core Writing (Test Code 5722) components is not changing, the test codes will change for Praxis Core Reading (from 5712 to 5713) and Writing (from 5722 to 5723) effective September 1, 2019. Furthermore, Mississippi’s current qualifying passing score for the Praxis Core Reading and Writing components will remain the same and a test taker’s score report will continue to report passing scores under the new test codes for current components of Praxis Core Reading and Writing that were taken and passed prior to September 1, 2019. The chart below has been provided for your convenience. Please remain mindful that the chart is updated as new tests are added. The most current version can be accessed in the appendix section of the Guidelines for Mississippi Educator Licensure K-12 document at https://www.mdek12.org/OTL/OEL/K12.
Please find attached, a PDF copy of the complete Memorandum from Mrs. Krystal Cormack, Bureau Director, Division of Educator Licensure, along with additional information regarding free enhanced test preparation materials developed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) in partnership Khan Academy.
