 CODING ACADEMY WITH TYNKER FOR ELEMENTARY TEACHER (0.6 CEUs)

This six-hour training for teachers to introduce them to computer coding and the benefits of incorporating coding into your elementary computer science initiative, ensuring students are on a path for college & career readiness.  Ideal for Elementary Computer Lab Teachers, Classroom Teachers, STEM/STEAM facilitators, and anyone who wants to teach kids to code!

Within these six hours (Getting Started with Coding, Introduction to Coding Using Free Coding Content, and Intermediate and Advanced Coding), teachers will receive the necessary content to be Tynker Certified Educator: Level 1, and they will receive content that will get them started with both Tynker Certified Educator: Level 2 and Tynker Distinguished Educator.

RESTRAINT, SECLUSION, AND CRISIS MANAGEMENT TRAINING (1.6 CEUS, 1 OSL, 10 SEMIS)

This sixteen-hour training teaches and certifies attendees as instructors; this certification enables the attendee to train other staff and employees in their organization. The course is broken down into two segments: virtual and in-person. The virtual session is estimated at eight hours long and must be completed before attending the in-person session. During the in-person session, an assessment will be completed for the information taught virtually and in-person.

LEADERSHIP SKILLS DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY (FY21/22) (30 SEMIS, 3 OSLS)

Exclusively provided by North MS Education Consortium, the Leadership Skills Development Academy is specifically designed for new and practicing school administrators. Topics of focus are current and relevant, and were chosen to provide school leaders with knowledge about day-to-day practices they may not have learned in college leadership programs.

The six days of training will be facilitated by MS Department of Education personnel and seasoned education leaders who have mentored administrators across the state. We anticipate all sessions to be in-person (P); however, in the event that this is not possible or a participant is unable to attend the in-person training day, a virtual (V) option will be available.

 INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES VS ACTIVITIES (0.6 CEUs)

This course is based on the research of Robert Marzano and John Hattie. It focuses on the difference between instructional strategies and activities. The ten most effective instructional strategies are explained along with research proven activities that correspond with each strategy. The information provided in this training has been proven to improve student learning and test scores.

MASTERING THE BASIC ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION FACTS (0.6 CEUs)

MASTERING THE BASIC MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION (0.6 CEUs)

Being “good at math” often referred to knowing basic facts quickly. But is that what defines a mathematically proficient student? What about the other skills—measurement, angles, fractions, time, etc.”? What role does knowing the basic addition/subtraction and multiplication/division facts playing in learning other content? This course will examine the trajectory, or journey, of students learning the basic addition and subtraction facts.

TRAUMA-INFORMED INSTRUCTION: WHAT TEACHERS NEED TO KNOW (1.0 CEU, 5 SEMIs)

We know many of our students have experienced trauma in their lives.  Those traumatic experiences, along with the fear associated with COVID-19 over the past few months, have created an urgent need for teachers to understand and utilize trauma-informed instructional strategies as a daily part of their professional practice.  In this course, participants will learn how trauma impacts a person’s development and education as well as several trauma-informed instructional strategies to meet the needs of all learners.

VIRTUAL EDUCATION SOFTWARE (VESI) ONLINE COURSES (3.0/4.5 CEUS, 20/35 SEMIS, 2/3 OSLS)

Virtual Education Software (VESi) offers continuing education courses for teachers and administrators online. These interactive courses provide expert instruction at a pace that fits your schedule. VESi courses are now tablet compatible, making it easy for you to recertify anytime, anywhere with reliable, stable online access.
