New webinar series launches March 31 for K-12 social studies teachers

The Mississippi Department of Education’s Office of Curriculum and Instruction will launch a new webinar series “The Primary Source” on Tuesday, March 31 at 4 p.m.  These monthly virtual meetings will feature K-12 Social Studies Director Al Wheat in conversation with experts and scholars on Social Studies topics, discussing their specialties while providing primary sources and strategies for K-12 educators to use in the classroom.

The inaugural session will feature Dr. Daphne Chamberlain, Chief Program Officer of the Emmett Till Interpretive Center, as she discusses how to cover Emmett Till’s story in a sensitive manner for students of different age groups and introduces teachers to various primary and secondary sources to use in the classroom.
