WORKSHOP TITLE: WOW! Wonders of Wetlands: Exploring Oxbows

Tuesday, March 9, 2021
9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

CEU VALUE: .6 CEUs from Mississippi College

COST: $25.00 non-refundable pre-registration fee

DESCRIPTION: WOW! The Wonders of Wetlands is an instructional guide for educators that provides a resourceful and creative collection of wetland activities, information, and ideas. The workshop will introduce you to the three parameters of wetlands (vegetation, soils, hydrology), wetland functions and values as well as management options all through fun and engaging activities. WOW! incorporates wetlands into reading, math, social studies, art or physical education lessons. We will be incorporating WOW! lessons while exploring oxbows at LeFleur’s Bluff State Park by canoe.

OF NOTE:  Please bring your lunch and a reusable water bottle. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing suitable for the weather as we will be on the museum’s trails and in canoes for a few activities. While we do not anticipate anyone getting wet, you may wish to bring an extra change of clothes and shoes just in case. Muck boots may also be useful but are not required.

 WORKSHOP TITLE: Project WET 2.0: Fish Tales

COST: $25.00 non-refundable pre-registration fee

DESCRIPTION:  Project WET 2.0 gives educators of students from kindergarten to twelfth grade the tools they need to integrate water education into every school subject. Fish Tales will specifically focus on watersheds and aquatic habitats, including river systems where legendary fish live and spawn. We will use activities from Project WET to explore our traveling exhibit, Monster Fish.

OF NOTE: Please bring your lunch and a reusable water bottle. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing suitable for the weather as we will be outside for some activities.

DESCRIPTION: Born to Be Wild will specifically focus on ways to connect children with the wild and wonderful outdoors. This workshop is designed to stimulate young children in new and exciting ways all while instilling a sense of wonder and love of exploration. Growing Up WILD is a national early childhood initiative that builds literacy skills and environmental appreciation among early learners through participation in engaging wildlife-based educational activities. This workshop is suggested for teachers that work with ages 3-7.
