Applications are open for schools seeking to be designated a Mississippi Military Star School in 2024. The deadline for principals or their representatives to complete the application is Feb. 28, 2024.
To qualify for the Mississippi Military Star School designation, a school must meet specific criteria. Requirements are outlined on the application available online at mdek12.org/MilitaryStarSchool. The Military Star School designation remains in effect for two years.
Gov. Tate Reeves directed the Mississippi Department of Education via Executive Order 1561 in February 2022 to create and administer the Military Star School Program to recognize schools that maintain a culture supportive of military children.
In March 2023, 61 schools received the first designations in the state. The Mississippi Military Star School Program stands as a symbol of recognition for schools that have undertaken significant efforts to address the unique needs of military families and students.
