It is time for the 33rd Annual state-wide Child Count of all children having both a documented vision and hearing impairment to ANY degree and regardless of IEP eligibility! This mandated Child Count is covered under the exceptions of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) § 99.31 as a viable case where prior parental consent is not required. We, as a Technical Assistance and Dissemination Project, are required by our funding source, the U.S. Department of Education (U.S. DOE), Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) to conduct an annual child count and to maintain a registry of all children having both a vision and hearing impairment to any degree with the National Center on Deaf-Blindness (NCDB). The Project shares only the most general of information such as age, sex, etiology, type of vision and hearing impairments, type of hearing and vision devices, type of educational placement, type of Part B or C services, and IEP coding through the Child Count.
We want to make this easy!
If you have student with both hearing AND vision impairments (to any degree), please complete the attached blank DB Child Count Reporting Form and return to the address listed. If you do not have a child with both impairments, no further action is needed. If you are unsure, please call us at 601.266.5135.
Please return the form to us at the address below OR fax it to 601.266.4978 OR scan/email to Kasey Keith at mailto:Kasey.firstname.lastname@example.org Friday, March 8th.
