Military Star School application deadline is Feb. 15

The new application portal for the Military Star Schools programs opened Friday, Dec. 12 at https://mdek12.org/jrotc/militarystarschool/. Deadline to apply is Feb. 15, 2026.

This application is for schools wishing to certify to become a Military Star School or for those current schools who are eligible to recertify.  The Military Star School program is designed to identify schools across the state that have purposefully implemented systems designed to respond to the educational and social-emotional challenges faced by military-connected children and their families during the transition to a new school.  The designation as a Military Star School is good for two academic years and schools must recertify at the end of their two-year cycle.

As a factor in a successful application decision, the appointed School Military Point of Contact (SMPOC) must complete MIC3 Compact 101 (new designee) or MIC3 Compact 201 (returning designee) and submit proof of training completion as part of the application. The completion of this training is a mandatory requirement for Military Star School consideration.  Registration for MIC3 Trainings can be accessed via the following:
