WORKSHOP TITLE: Archery and Canoeing: Outdoor Education Opportunities for Classrooms

Monday, July 13, 2020
9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

CEU VALUE: .6 CEUs from Mississippi College

COST: $25.00 non-refundable pre-registration fee

DESCRIPTION:  This training session helps enhance the science classroom by providing educators hands-on outdoor recreation activities that can be shared with students. Teachers will learn archery and canoeing basics and their importance in natural resource conservation. Teachers will explore the importance of outdoor education in life skills, study maps to learn about Oxbow Lakes, and learn about the species which survive in this type of habitat. OF NOTE: Please bring your lunch and a reusable water bottle. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing suitable for the weather. Water shoes are appropriate for canoeing, a change of clothing is recommended. Lifejackets will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own. Participation in both activities is required for successful completion of this workshop.

WORKSHOP TITLE:  Bridging the Gap: Integrating Science using Literature and Trade Books

DESCRIPTION:  This workshop will help teachers integrate science standards within reading requirements already established by schools and districts.

The workshop will provide strategies that will assist K-12 educators in increasing the students knowledge and understanding of science concepts through the use of literature and trade books. Participants will read selected materials and take part in hands on activities which can easily be incorporated into the classroom curriculum.

WORKSHOP TITLE: Getting Little Feet Wet

DESCRIPTION: Getting Little Feet Wet is a new curriculum designed specifically for young children that allow them to explore the science of water in our bodies and in our environment. This workshop is for teachers that work with PreK-2nd grade.

WORKSHOP TITLE: WILD About Snakes

DESCRIPTION: Come celebrate World Snake Day with us and meet many different species. The workshop is on the importance of snakes & how in nature everything coexist. We will learn ways of preventing snakes from entering your home & how snakes are beneficial medically.

WORKSHOP TITLE: Project WET 2.0: Getting Fishy With It

9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

CEU VALUE: .6 CEUs from Mississippi College

COST: $25.00 non-refundable pre-registration fee

DESCRIPTION:  Project WET 2.0 gives educators of students from kindergarten to twelfth grade the tools they need to integrate water education into every school subject. Getting Fishy With It will specifically focus on watersheds and aquatic habitats, including river systems where fish live and spawn. We will use activities from Project WET to explore our traveling exhibit, Monster Fish.
