MDE Office of Student Assessment Content and Bias Review Interest Survey due April 28

The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) Office of Student Assessment (OSA) is seeking qualified participants for a MAAP ELA and Math; MAAP-A Alternate ELA, Alternate Math, and Alternate Science Content and Bias Review scheduled for July 11-13. The deadline to complete an interest survey is 4 p.m. Friday, April 28.

This Content and Bias Review Workshop will be for English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics and Special Education teachers. Participants will be chosen based on experience in the following content areas:  English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics (Grades 3-8 ELA, Grades 3-8 Mathematics, Algebra I, and English II) and MAAP-A  Alternate English Language Arts (ELA), Alternate Mathematics, and Alternate Science.

If you participated in the Item Writer Workshop (IWW), then you are not eligible to participate in the Content and Bias Review.

The purpose of the committee is to review the newly developed items to determine their standards alignment and quality. Specifically, committees will confirm appropriateness of items for the MAAP or MAAP-A and review the newly developed items for potential sources of bias, sensitivity issues, and gender or cultural stereotypes.

Participants MUST

  1. Have a valid educator license with an appropriate endorsement in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, or Special Education.
  2. Be employed by a Mississippi public school district.
  3. Be present all assigned days.

Travel (including lodging if you live more than 75 miles from Jackson, Mississippi) and substitute teacher reimbursement or stipend will be covered by NWEA/Questar Assessments, Inc.
