The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE)’s Orientation for School Leaders (OSL) training is a three-module, six-day statewide series facilitated by Mississippi’s Regional Education Service Agencies. The MDE-approved OSL series is designed to develop early career administrators as instructionally focused, team-oriented, and improvement-driven school leaders.

OSL and SEMI credits will be offered throughout the summer across Mississippi. Module objectives are as follows, and practicing administrators may register for one, two, or all three modules:
Strengthening Instruction
- Understand the implementation of high-quality instructional materials
- Engage in the essential components of a multi-tiered system of support
- Improve all students’ access to learning through inclusive leadership
Strengthening Teams
- Complete the required Professional Growth System training
- Use productive strategies for school culture
- Develop skills for coaching professional learning communities
- Practice real-world social media scenarios
Strengthening Schools
- Apply accreditation standards as tools for improvement
- Calculate sample elementary and secondary accountability ratings
- Understand the criteria for school improvement identification and exit
