Is the writing portion of the MAP scored by computer?
No, the writing is human scored by trained scorers with representatives from MS schools present to observe and validate.
Will there be training for MAP writing and test items with exemplars?
The Office of Student Assessment does not have training scheduled for MAP writing at this time. There are test items available on the MAP website located here. There is a grade 10 writing prompt with scored responses in the ELA Rubric Guide located here. There will be scored responses available on the MAP page on the MDE website later this month for grades 4 and 7.

Will classroom teachers be allowed to administer the MAP Assessment to students they teach as long as a proctor is in the classroom?
This is allowed, but strongly discouraged at the high school level for End-of-Course assessments. How much longer before ELA and Math
Will SPED students with a developmentally-delayed ruling who are re-assessed and qualify for a Significant Learning Disability (SLD) ruling be required to take the grade level MAP assessment or the MAP-A Assessment? If no, what would qualify these students to take the MAP assessment and not MAP-A?
Students who have a ruling of SLD must take their grade-level MAP assessment. Only students who have a significant cognitive disability are eligible to take the MAP-A.
Will additional MSTAR trainings be provided throughout the state?
Yes, there will be additional training dates scheduled in the spring for teachers. Those dates will be announced.
Will teacher attendance be included in the accountability model for 2017-2018?
No, teacher attendance is not a part of the accountability model and will not be added.
Since the MAP English Language Arts test is now the assessment used for the 3rd grade literacy test, when can we expect scores to be released so we know which students need to be retested?
The scores for the 3rd grade literacy test portion of the MAP assessment will be returned within the testing window in May. MDE will provide districts with a Pass/Retest roster for 3rd grade students so districts will know who will need to retest with MKAS2 before the end of the school year. The exact date districts will receive this roster will be determined by when the students complete the MAP assessment.
How can I participate in item development and review for the MAP assessments?
The Office of Student Assessment sends out a survey requesting volunteers for various committees on an as-needed basis. These surveys are sent to district test coordinators to be shared with principals and teachers.

Mississippi teachers partnered with the Mississippi Department of Education to create family guides that parents can use at home to support their child’s learning.
The Family Guide for Student Success booklets outline what children should know and be able to do in English language arts and mathematics at each grade level from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. Parents understand best their child’s needs, strengths, abilities and interests, and they can partner with their child’s teacher to provide opportunities to learn and grow.
