Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE) is offering  professional development opportunities this summer for educators through a Federal Trade Commission webinar series. All registrants will receive access to the webinar recordings via email.

Important Note for Mississippi Teachers Seeking $25 Gift card and CEU Credit: To be eligible for the $25 gift card and 0.5 CEU credits through our organization, you must attend all five webinars live. Viewing the recordings does not count toward CEU eligibility.

Description: Join us to learn more about the Danny Dollar Academy! Exclusively for teachers in Pearl River, Hancock, and Harrison counties, this program brings financial literacy to life through the inspiring adventures of Danny Dollar, the “King of Cha-Ching.” Whether students are just beginning to explore money concepts with The Lemonade Escapade (ideal for 3rd-5th grade) or diving deeper into entrepreneurship and money management with Make Your Own Money (perfect for 6th-7th grade), Danny’s storylines provide practical and fun lessons that empower young minds to earn, save, and dream big. The workshop includes interactive financial literacy lessons aligned with grade levels, engaging storytelling that introduces concepts like banking, budgeting, investing, and entrepreneurship, as well as hands-on activities that encourage students to create their own business plans and understand the power of smart money decisions. Bringing Asia into the Classroom: Trade, Culture, and Global Connections

TV to GDP: Laurel’s Economic Turnaround

Description: Can a tv show really make a difference? Just ask the city of Laurel. This workshop is a fun and engaging way to learn how television production in a town has the ability to turn an economy around. The session will include panel discussions addressing the economic impact of television production in a small town, discussions of Home Town’s impact on Laurel, and several Federal Reserve lessons on related topics (Human Capital, Entrepreneurism, GDP) to bring the economic lessons of Laurel to your classroom. There will be an optional golf cart tour of Laurel after the workshop for a fee.

Owning the Dash

Description: Join us for the Owning the Dash workshop, a professional development opportunity for elementary teachers, media specialists, and librarians. This hands-on workshop introduces educators to the DASH Financial Literacy Kit, a dynamic resource designed to make teaching financial concepts fun and interactive. Participants will learn how to use award-winning picture books and interactive learning tools, including the Spending Shuffle card game, to teach children key financial principles like budgeting, supply and demand, scarcity, and delayed gratification. Attendees will receive their own Financial Literacy Kit- a $150 value- including six picture books, lesson plans, video guides, discussion questions, and more, all neatly organized in a colorful, durable storage box. Space is limited to 30 teachers.
