The Mississippi Department of Education’s Division of Literacy is offering a limited number of Fall Learning Walks for non-literacy support schools (Grades K–3) from Oct. 6 – Nov. 20, 2025. These non-evaluative, evidence-based classroom walk-throughs are grounded in the Science of Reading and the Structured Literacy approach. They are designed to help schools identify current instructional practices, assess student engagement, and inform and guide professional development.
Learning Walk Focus Areas:
During the Learning Walk, participants will use a structured protocol to observe:
- Instruction 1 – Application of concepts
- Instruction 2 – Use of instructional strategies
- Classroom atmosphere and preparation
- Writing and Tier 1 small group instruction
How to Participate:
- Each district may submit one request before Sept. 19, 2025.
- To apply, complete the Learning Walk Request Form.
- Selected districts will be notified by Sept. 30, 2025.
Selected schools should be familiar with MDE’s Learning Walk Protocols. After the walk and debrief, the MDE will facilitate a Professional Learning Community (PLC) session focused on strengthening Tier 1 instruction and/or High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) internalization.
