Literacy-Based Promotion Act Reminder

Greetings Superintendents, Curriculum Coordinators, Federal Programs Directors, Special Education Directors, District Test Coordinators, and Principals:

We just wanted to provide a reminder that for the 2017-18 school year, students may meet promotion requirements of the Literacy-Based Promotion Act by:

  • earning a passing score (level 2 or above) on the multiple-choice portion of the 3rd Grade MAAP-ELA Assessment.
  • achieving a scale score of 926 on either of the two retest opportunities on the 3rd Grade Reading Alternative Assessment. *
  • achieving a composite score of Level 2 or higher on the 3rd Grade MAAP-ELA Assessment after the writing is scored. *

*Please note these two methods of promotion are considered Good Cause Exemption D (Alternative Assessment).

The 3rd Grade Reading Alternative Assessment retest window closes on August 3, 2018. If you have any questions about this information, please contact Melissa Beck in the Office of Student Assessment at
