Legal Symposium Reminder


This is a reminder that the Office of Special Education is hosting a Legal Symposium with Art Cernosia, Esq. on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at the Brandon Municipal Complex located at 1001 Municipal Drive in Brandon.  The symposium is designed for all administrators. This training is designed to provide participants with federal statutory/regulatory information along with new judicial decisions impacting students with disabilities.

Our presenter, Art Cernosia is an attorney and education consultant from Williston, Vermont. He is also associated with the University of Vermont’s Education Law Institute. Art previously worked as a teacher and practicing attorney and served as an Assistant Attorney General assigned to the Vermont Department of Education. He also volunteered as a surrogate parent for students with disabilities who were placed in juvenile detention facilities in Vermont. Art provides training, consultation, and other technical assistance services to parent/advocacy organizations and to state and local education agencies throughout the nation pertaining to special education legal issues.

Sign-in (registration) will begin at 8:00 A.M., with the symposium beginning at 8:30 A.M. and concluding around 4:30 P.M. CEUs and SEMIs will be provided. The outline for the day is attached to this email. Please print it and bring a hard copy or digital copy with you.
