Traditionally, Mississippi schools celebrate School Bus Driver Appreciation Week during National School Bus Safety Week, which occurs annually during the third week in October. This year’s theme is “Be Safe, Know the Danger Zone.”
This week is an opportunity for all Mississippians and local school districts to reflect upon the outstanding job performance of school bus drivers who transport students to and from school and school-related activities throughout the school year, traveling over 20 million miles on urban and rural roads in the State of Mississippi. School bus drivers are the heroes of safety that go above and beyond the call of duty as they deliver the most precious cargo – our students.
The Mississippi Department of Education’s Division of Pupil Transportation, Office of Safe and Orderly Schools, sends our heartfelt thank you to all local transportation administrators, transportation administrator assistants, school bus drivers, school bus monitors, shop foremen, mechanics, school bus driver, and other school transportation personnel that ensure the safety of all Mississippi students on Mississippi public roadways.
We encourage you to share stories and pictures about your school bus drivers — your heroes of safety — on your school or district’s social media page. Please tag the Mississippi Department of Education to reach a statewide audience.
