Intervention Services Professional Learning Facilitators career opportunity available

The Mississippi Department of Education  Curriculum and Instruction is seeking Intervention Services Professional Learning Facilitators in the areas of Dyslexia, English Learners (EL), and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) to provide direct, ongoing support to schools and districts.

This is an excellent opportunity for retirees. Salary range is $40 an hour. 

The support will include, but is not limited to:

  • The English Learner Professional Learning Facilitator will assist teachers and administrators with:  Identifying or creating high-quality Tier I lessons in content areas aligned to grade-appropriate Mississippi English Language Proficiency Standards and Mississippi College- and Career-Readiness Standards based on data; and ESL specific lessons that are MS ELP and MS CCR aligned as indicated by data.
  • MTSS Professional Learning Facilitator will support schools in utilizing high-quality Tier II and Tier III interventions specific to the needs of the individual students and assist educators with scheduling, planning, grouping, and the use of data in intervention implementation.
  • Dyslexia Professional Learning Facilitator will provide high-impact professional learning and technical assistance to enhance district and school awareness of dyslexia, understand training and screening requirements, and build capacity for implementing effective multi-tiered systems of support.  This includes promoting targeted structured literacy instructional practices and supporting data analysis to inform student instruction and improve outcomes for students diagnosed with dyslexia as well as students that exhibit characteristics of dyslexia.

The Professional Learning Facilitators will develop positive, open, professional, and collaborative working relationships with the district and school leaders, intervention staff, teachers, and support staff.  The Professional Learning Facilitators will also support an open, professional, and collaborative working relationship between the Mississippi Department of Education and the school districts and schools, effectively identifying the needs of the assigned districts to prioritize, schedule, organize, and provide continued implementation and improvement of evidence-based interventions, including interventions for students diagnosed with dyslexia or exhibiting characteristics of dyslexia and specific EL lessons and strategies.  Extensive travel within the state and frequent onsite school visits are required.

Experience/Education Requirements 

  • Three (3) years’ experience as a successful dyslexia therapist, English learner teacher, or interventionist.
  • Experience supporting students in Title I schools and struggling student subgroups of dyslexia, English learners, or students in intervention as identified by the Mississippi Department of Education
  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Master’s degree in education (Endorsement 203 for Dyslexia Professional Learning Facilitator)
  • Valid teaching license
