Keynote speakers are:  June 25, Barry Lane, author of After THE END: Teaching and Learning Creative Revision (2nd edition) ; the Reviser’s Toolbox, The Healing Pen, Discovering the Writer Within, Why We Must Run with Scissors; and 51 Wacky WeSearch Reports.

A writer, folksinger, filmmaker, and comedian. 25-year career, presented to students and teachers in all 50 states and abroad, courses in prisons, colleges & adult literacy programs. Presentations include music, comedy, and many practical ideas to help teachers discover the true power of writing; June 26, Dr. Marissa Ramirez Stukey, Co – author of the forthcoming book Professional Learning Redefined.

Regional Director with the Center for the Collaborative Classroom.  Nationally Board Certified Teacher with over fifteen years of experience teaching in both elementary and higher education contexts, instructional coaching, and professional learning systems development.  Her research interests focus on reading comprehension instruction and designing literacy professional learning.  She has consulted with numerous school districts in developing change models and collaborative professional learning structures, particularly to shift literacy instruction; and June 27, Dr. Ernest Morrell, author of Critical Media Pedagogy: Achievement, Production, and Justice in City Schools and Linking Literacy and Popular Culture.

Contributions & Expertise in myPerspectives ELA: Assessment, Writing & Research, Student Engagement, Collaborative Learning. Professor of English Education at Columbia Univ., president-elect, National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), Director of Teachers College’s Harlem-based Institute for Urban and Minority Education (IUME), an award-winning high school English teacher in California, works with teachers and schools across the country to infuse multicultural literature, youth popular culture, and media production into standards-based literacy curricula.

If you would like to attend, please complete the attached flier for the Gulf Coast Conference on the Teaching of Writing.  Also, please forward the flier to teachers/administrators from your school district who would be interested in attending this conference.  The call for presentations for the Conference is attached if you are interested in presenting a concurrent session at the conference. The concurrent sessions are approximately 50 minutes long, or there is the possibility of presenting a double 2-hour session on June 26.  In addition, attached is the Housing Request Form for you to reserve your hotel room.
