We are pleased to announce the inaugural Pathways2Possibilities:P2P Central Mississippi 2019. P2P is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, November 6th & 7th 2019, at the Jackson Convention Complex in Jackson, Mississippi.
Pathways2Possibilities:P2P is a hands-on, interactive career exploration experience, designed to help 8th graders and opportunity youth, ages 16-24, link their passions to a paycheck. P2P currently takes place in the following locations: Gulf Coast (original expo), Northeast Mississippi affiliate, (Imagine the Possibilities), Mississippi Delta and Northwest Mississippi. A special thanks to First Lady, Deborah Bryant and Public Service Commissioner, Cecil Brown for their early advocacy and ongoing support for this important education initiative.
Professionals engage students through hands-on activities in their respective fields, while also sharing what life is like in their jobs and the training and education required. Each student spends two hours exploring the pathways, along with educators and chaperones. The following 19 career pathways, aligned with US Department of Education and Mississippi Department of Education will be showcased: Aerospace, Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources, Architecture & Construction, Arts, AV Technology & Communications, Business Management & Administration, Education & Training, Energy, Engineering & Polymer Science, Finance, Government & Public Administration, Health Science, Hospitality and Tourism, Human Services, Information Technology, Law, Public Safety, Corrections & Security, Manufacturing, Marine Science, Marketing, Transportation Distribution and & Logistics.
All 8th graders from public and private schools plus, home schooled students from the following Central Mississippi counties: Hinds, Madison, Rankin, Scott and Warren are invited to attend. In a private session after the 8th graders depart, identified older youth ages 16-24 years old will also experience P2P. They are invited through a variety of approved alternative schools and workforce development programs.
P2P debuted in Biloxi, Mississippi in November 2013. Since that time, the P2P founders have hosted nearly 70, 000 8th graders and over 1,500 older opportunity youth ages 16-24 years old from 39 of Mississippi’s 82 counties. In addition, the University of Mississippi’s, Center for Educational Research and Evaluation Research team has been tracking the impact of students who attend P2P since 2015.
