Commonly Asked Questions about Allowable ESSER and GEER Activities

CCSSO Common Use of Funds Questions for ESSER and GEER 2.25.21

CCSSO created a new resource titled, “Commonly Asked Questions about Allowable ESSER and GEER Activities.” We continue to field many questions from states about allowable uses of ESSER and GEER relief funds and created the attached document to help address questions on additional pay for educators, transportation, high-quality instructional materials and curricula, real property or modular classrooms, construction and renovations, and addressing budget shortfalls. USED is currently working on additional federal guidance around these programs, including Use of Funds guidance. However, we know these are urgent questions, so CCSSO developed this resource to provide guidance in the interim. USED has fully reviewed this CCSSO resource and provided feedback, so we are confident that our analysis reflects the Department’s current thinking. CCSSO will continue to prioritize supporting states in effective administration of federal funds.
