Collective Support for Equity – Hanover Research

Instructional Success

  • Return to Learning Best Practices – This report summarizes best practices for assessing and remediating student learning loss, using SEL in classrooms following a crisis, and supporting teacher and staff well-being. Hanover also profiles exemplar districts on their strategies, programs, and professional learning ideas for in-person teacher/student learning supports and capacity.
  • Effective Virtual PLCs – This analysis reviews the effectiveness, implementation strategies for success, and challenges associated with virtual professional learning communities. There is an accompanying annotated bibliography for further review.

Equity & Inclusion

  • Research Brief: Conducting an Equity Audit – This report provides background on academic literature surrounding equity audits and highlights research and projects that districts should commission as part of an equity audit.
  • Toolkit: Systemic Implementation of Equity – This toolkit is intended to support district leaders and equity committee members in guiding initial conversations around equity and supporting the district’s first steps in prioritizing equity across the district. The topics range of definitions of different types of equity to evaluating practices and developing an equity plan.
  • Academic Equity Workbook – District leaders are using this workbook to develop a framework to evaluate academic data points and how performance on these data points may differ by student sub-groups. Specifically, the workbook provides explanations of key concepts, placeholders to record data, and guiding questions to support discussion.

Virtual Events

  • [Webinar] Leading for Equity: Data-Driven Audits and District Protocols for Success – Last week, AASA, Hanover’s Dr. Leila Nuland, and Superintendents Dr. Daryl Camp (San Lorenzo Unified School District, CA) and Dr. Gregory Hutchings (Alexandria City Public Schools, VA) discussed best practices and the importance of equity audits. Dr. Nuland also shared frameworks districts can use to implement equity agendas that bring about real change as well as current data trends.
