The MDE Office of Special Education, in conjunction with the Office of Early Childhood, is pleased to announce the release of a Request for Proposals (RFP) to assist school districts with implementing a blended pre-kindergarten classroom. Blended Pre-Kindergarten classrooms are made up of both typically developing students and those who have been identified as having a disability. Students are educated together working on achieving the Mississippi Early Learning Standards in these classrooms. The recommended class make up would consist of approximately 40% students with disabilities and 60% of students with typical development. Funding is available for three (3) school years to assist with startup costs and professional development.
This purpose of this grant is to increase students’ access to high-quality early childhood programs, as set out in State Board of Education Goal 3. The RFP can be found at https://mdek12.org/PN/RFP.
On Monday, February 3, 2020, at 3:00 pm, the MDE will host a webinar that explains the RFP requirements.
The deadline for submitting written questions by email is Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. Copies of all questions submitted and responses will be posted to MDE’s website (www.mdek12.org) under the Public Notices section and will be available to the general public before 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2020.
