The Mississippi Department of Education’s Office of Elementary Education and Reading, Division of Literacy, would like to celebrate Mississippi educators through the recognition of Emerging Science of Reading School awards and Science of Reading School awards. Deadline to apply for either recognition is Feb. 14.
Mississippi educators share a deep commitment to supporting student literacy gains, which includes dedicated participation in science of reading professional learning. These recognitions are for schools that have trained teachers in the science of reading, exemplified a change of instructional practices, implemented High-Quality Instructional Materials, and embodied a school culture that focuses on building skillful, strong readers in kindergarten through third grade.
The Emerging Science of Reading School award and Science of Reading School award will be determined by previous receipt of the award and total number of points received on the application rubric.
The Emerging Science of Reading School award is an annual designation and must be reapplied for each year. The Science of Reading School award is a three-year designation and must be reapplied for every three years.
To apply for recognition, complete the Mississippi Emerging Science of Reading Application by Feb. 14. Please note that all applicants will complete the same form. For questions, contact Mandy Logue at amanda.logue@mdek12.org.
